I'm sure that I will migrate this laptop to Linux when I can do so with minimal hassle. With that said, it is still Windows and it will be plagued by all the issues inherent to the Windows registry (viruses etc). And despite all the different uses for computers, a web browser is surely the most widely used program on any machine. Edge is a competent browser (thank god MS abandoned that nightmare of a browser IE). It seems to be a pretty clean UI that doesn't throw all sorts of unnecessary and unwanted crap at me. It does not seem to be as cluttered as my previous experiences with Windows. I must say, for Windows, I don't really mind Win11. So, I've chosen to leave the pre-installed Win11 on it for now. However, my newest laptop has a Wifi chipset which is not very well supported in Linux. When I buy a new machine, the first thing that I typically do is delete the Windows OS and install Linux. I've always found Windows to be a cluttered, confusing conglomeration that always seemed to get in my way. First, I consider myself anti-windows - period. I just want to add my opinion on Win11 and this is as good a place as any. Swapping to windows 11 for work has been a total pain in the ass and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone right now. Requiring an extra click for every context menu action in windows menus please why? People complain about this A LOT so why not do something about it? Weird bugs like these have plagued me for months now on my work device and there are no solutions to be found online. This does not happen when I switch to my windows 10 boot drive. Whats with the multi-monitor bugs? There's a 20% chance starting my day one of my 2 non-primary monitors will have a bugged colour profile with washed out colours. Whats the point of the calendar flyout if there are no events being displayed on it? Force people into the new calendar app or something? The bugs are mostly disrupting for my productive workflows. If you're using it for productivity and work, I'd wait at least a year. Frankly, I'd probably leave it on 10 unless the CPU had E cores, but that's because there's not that big a difference between them and I'm lazy more than anything. If I was installing windows from scratch again, I'd install 11 without question. The only thing left that actually annoys me about 11 vs 10 on a regular basis is that when you're dragging stuff to another window, 10 let you hover over it on the taskbar and it'd open that window, which made it possible to drag from a maximized window somewhere else on the same monitor. What annoys me are little things - I used to be really annoyed that you can't right click the Taskbar to open task manager anymore (but I got used to ctrl-shift-esc), I was briefly annoyed at the neutered context menus in File Explorer for the 15 minutes or so until I found out how to change them back. Windows 7 had a much better start menu to go after the same level of usefulness, and 10 was just strictly more useful. Honestly, I'm not picky and it doesn't bother me that much, but it's just. People just look for things to complain about. And now they're probably some of the ones running 10 and complaining about ads in 11 too. I seem to remember people fearmongering about ads in 10, saying 7 would be their last windows. Right! Like where exactly are all of these ads supposed to be? People are making a huge fuss and demonizing win11 over a literally imagined issue.
